Art in the Warehouse.

Photobucket

For about a month I've been working on this 20 foot long drawing. The piece is inspired by Tumblr, the way you can scroll forever on Tumblr and each image flows into each other is inspired by something that has caught my eye on Tumblr.

Drawings.

Photobucket

I've been drawing for ages now, its become the new watching telly for me. I'm getting quite good too, if I do say so myself. So much so I thought I should start actually advertise it. The first photo the newest and the lower you scroll the older there get.

lately I've been looking at a lot of front magazine and tattooed ladies, I like how their bodies their bodies come in all different sizes and shapes, so I've been inspired to draw them all. I didn't want to draw my own animals on their skin as their tattoos, but they were just practices so I didn't bother yet, maybe I will next time.

Photobucket

I love to use a lot of lines and dots to add detail and shading in to my images. This is ment to be a lotus  flower I guess you cant tell because theres no colour, but it's one of my favorite drawings just because of the contrast.

Photobucket

I love these drawings, in fact I've had the beetle tattooed, I got the tattooist to redraw the pincers, as I hate the ones I did but the rest I'm proud of. The wasp I may get on my foot.

Photobucket

If you hadn't noticed, I am very much inspired by tattooist such as Guy Le, Chris Collins and SO ON and SO ON! Though lately it's been less about the small tattoo-able images and about huge life drawing/ illustration as I like to call it pieces. I bought a sketch book for uni but instead I've started drawing the biggest pictures I can then creating huge patterns for the background.

defiantly takes up all my time but I love doing it.

Failed film!

Photobucket

Chapter Art's in Cardiff just held a Festival of Failure this weekend, they had stalls of s****y prizes, for example unlabeled tins and broken toys. I loved this idea, but I didn't play any of the carnival type games as I really didnt want to carry scrable peices around with me. Chapter also set up a contest  where groups of people had to create a film using this failure idea. They gave us a title (for us Goliath), a prop (for every one is was a fez) and a small, in a way instructions but also some diolog for our 2 - 5 minute film.

Ever tried
Ever failed
No matter
Try again
Fail again
Fail better

(Sam Beckett, 1906 - 1989)

I was so excited when Angelo told us about this project, and it turned out to be as fun as I thought it would be. I was the actor in the film, Kris the camera man, Angelo and Charlie the creative minds though we all contributed too each area of the film. This is a photo of me before we filmed, I change a tiny bit though, I'm wearing Charlie's Docs and no mustache in the film.

The film turned out to be amazing, with Angelo and Charlie working on the music, Kris on the editing of the film and Jetta, the dialogue. I turned it in today and I should be able to put the film on to this blog next week, after showing it in Chapter and maybe other places like Milgi and Cineworld.

Really looking forward to doing more films like this again!!!

Jon Pountney is a Cardiff based photographer, he currently exhibiting 'Cardiff before Cardiff' in the Millenium Centre which you can catch at the moment until the 27th of May.

Jon is a brilliant photographer, he has captured the clutter effect I wanted to show in my exhibition   that I have not been able to achieve in my own photography.  He also got a shot of the one thing I had not noticed in my own exhibition and that every one else had. The Guess Who game had created question mark shadows on the bottle behind it, I've been wanted to take my own photos of this but I think Jon's are much better.

I'm taking the exhibition down tomorrow and I really appreciate every one who came to the exhibition, particularly the ones who took photos.

Thank you.

Another busy day.

Photobucket

I really can't believe how hard I work sometimes, I know to some people I may seem to be the laziest person alive but when I want something done I will work none stop until I've finished it. Today it took me 8 hours none stop to finish my exhibition and I'm pretty sure I'd still be there now with out loads of help from charlie.

Photobucket

I was getting very tired and frustrated at first with the string as it kept not wanting to fall where I wanted it to or it would knock some other bits of string in a different direction, but two hours in and charlie had made it fun with her white hands and some how getting my finger up her nose as I tried feeding her yogurt raisins. Our friendship knows no boundaries HA.

Photobucket

I'm really pleased with the lighting I have created, with the white-ish walls of Milgi's warehouse the objects looks very eerie which is the effect I wanted to create. So I'm happy with that. We was thinking about painting the walls behind the exhibition but I'm so glad we didn't in the end as I love mess and the colourful, chipping paint works well with the random draping of the string.

Photobucket

Charlie's favorite object, which I really like as well. I'm really happy with the way I hung this shoe, I know it's really simple but I just find it really clever it's staying up because of the tongue. (sounds silly I know). I painted this shoe about 20 times before I thought it was done, because it's a black, fake suede the shoe for ever looks grey. But I got there in the end and I'm very happy with it.

Photobucket

This is my favorite photo of the exhibition, in fact the dolls house and the wheel are my favorite objects out of the millions I just painted and hung all day. After months of painting LOADS of every day objects I was really scared I wouldn't have enough to to exhibit by the end of the day I found out I had far to much. I came home with two huge shopping bags of cans and bottels. Oh well better to have more then less in this case. So The exhibition is open now until the 29th, I'll be in the warehouse from 18:00 until 22:00 every day. So I Hope you see you all soon.

Charlie's drawing.

Photobucket

Charlie draw me drawing on the window yesterday, I love it. She made my bum and leg look great so it's going up as my face book profile picture, HA. My mum spilt blueberry smoothy on to Charlie's drawing, my mum felt really bad but I think it made the drawing even more charlie, as she uses a lot of textures even in her photography. And I think charlie likes it even more and has even added more smoothy to her work.

Milgi Window.

Photobucket

So what have I been doing over this weekend? neglecting my photography job, firstly but also I've been drawing on Milgi's window. I've wanted to draw on it for ages and a few days ago Becky, out of the blue text me and asked me to do it. It came at a great time as well as tomorrow is my exhibition, so for a week Milgi is all about me, or so I like to think, HA.

Photobucket

Charlie took the first two photos on this post, their really funny because they really make me relise I really need to cut my hair. The window took me three days to complete, I finally finished it today, Charlie was very nicely with me every day keeping my company. I drank about 3 latte's a day which I felt quite bad for asking, maybe I should have brought my coffee to keep me awake every day. Oh well the latte's were very good and so was the many slices of cake and curry I ate each day. Milgi food may be the best in the world.

Photobucket

I finished the pen the octopus in holding first, and I have to say I am very proud of it. The ink started to run so I dabbed at it with blue roll and I really like the detail, though this photo doesn't look to great, the real image looks a lot better in person. I also really like the lines on the wood, some being very thin and some being very thick.

Photobucket

My favorite part of the whole drawing has to be the eye of the octopus, its a very friendly eye and has so much detail in it. It is also the first thing I start with when I draw this octopus.

Photobucket

This is the drawing when I have finished today, in person the drawing looks a lot better from the inside of milgi, I like to think it's a little something special for the Milgi fans. though the truth is that it's just because you can see more detail on the inside. But thanks to the lighting in the images the octopus looks better on the outside, I'm going to have to take a photo at night.

Photobucket

And this is the final taken from the outside. Charlie wrote my blog address for me at the bottom of the window, it is her favorite part of the whole window... Thanks Charlie!! HA I do like how much she loves her own work, I wish I have the same enthusiasm towards my own but I just pick at it until I hate it. I try not to look at my work for to long, sadly I've had to look at this for three days, but I'm not going to say all the things I hate about it I'll let you judge it for your self.

Exhibition in Milgi.

Photobucket

Sorry I havent blogging in such a long time, I've been sorting out my exhibition in Milgi for next week. It's all about the scary world of the internet, how no one really knows who their talking to on social networking sites and gamers being addicted to online gaming. I'm inspired by the Sublime and the Everyday, a aim is to create a modern day Sublime art piece.

All I've been doing for the last month is collecting every ones old crap and painting it white. I've always loved white on white but by the end of this exhibition I may get head aches from the sit of even magnolia. =D

Every one and any one is very welcome to the exhibition, so please come, grab and drink from milgi's bar and enjoy yourself.

A Load of Droppings

Photobucket

It is frowned upon for an average person to walk into disabled toilets, but at Milgi they encourage it. In fact they have created a mini cinema in their disabled toilet with foldaway seats; popcorn is even available.

The cinema shows a collection of short films, all created by different artists. Harald Hund and Paul Horn’s film stood out the most, it was called Dropping Furniture. It was about 3 minutes long and featured different household items falling from the ceiling and crashing into a room in slow motion. To watch this film, in a strange way is very satisfying like being addicted to a drug and having your first fix after a few days, you are compelled to watch as furniture breaks into a million pieces and debris scatters across the room. For a moment I was crushingly disappointed to see a chair survive the fall, but then my confidence was restored as the following table, complete with wine, plates, knives and forks falls up-side-down. I was so involved in the film I actually shouted “NO!”outloud as a fish tank exploded onto the ground, spilling water everywhere. The only word I can think of to describe the sound of the film was epic, as well and the visuals being amazing, the sound was stunning, like the sound of an aeroplane sawing across the sky, a sound that just makes heads turn, you sit up and watch.

I would say if you don’t live in Cardiff near Milgi there is no point you popping in just to watch the 3 minute film. But if you fancy a nice relaxing drink in Milgi, pop into the mini cinema in the loo and watch the film as you wee, though I’d advise against the popcorn.

Don't Touch

Photobucket

I hate not being able to blog, I haven't wanted to because I've spent so much time blogging about my museum project I wanted my tutors to find the post's with ease. Still not sure if their still marking or not but I just thought I'd add this post because it's connected.

The day after I thought it was all over I had a phone call off one of my teachers Carroll, I had written all over the floor of my museum project. I didn't think it was a big deal, I had asked the care taker and he said it should be fine. Later my mother told me it was really old, expensive flooring and some important people wanted to inspect the building. So it was completely fair they made me come in to scrap all the writing off, though I wasn't the happiest about it at the time. I was so determined to get it all off and get out of there it only took me about 3 hours I thought it would be a lot more.

I did like the writing so thank god Charlie took a photo of my horrible language I wrote on the floor. The only reason I wrote such things was because after I had set up all my chairs and made them perfect some one came in a rearranged them all and sacked them neatly.

I love the photo Charlie took.

Chair Museum.

This is the final out come of my chair museum, I've been collecting peoples drawings of chairs for the last few months, as you may have noticed I've been blogging about every one who has contributed. Just a huge thank you to every one who did, especially to Charlie who helped the most, setting the chairs up and drawing endless chairs for me.

The mountain of chairs was inspired by Carwyn Evans' "Unlliw. I really loved the chaos that is Unlliw, the piles of 6,500 cardboard bird boxes represent he anger towards building 6,500 new houses in Carwyn's quite home town in Ceredigion in Wales.

Museums are normally really neat and perfectly measured and white, I really wanted to just do a huge mess of a museum, throwing every thing every where. But thinking about it, Just having a huge mess wasn't enough. So thinking back to Carwyn's work I thought I should pick one object.

Thinking about the houses and them all being the same I thought, "yeah the house's are the same but what about the people inside them, people come in all different shapes and sizes." So I had to find something that changed in style but the same object. Then it came to me, chairs! Chairs are interesting, come in all different shapes and sizes. Plus nice chairs remind me of my Granddad, he is a carpenter who fixes antiques. When I used to stay over his as a child I used to go in there and see all the broken chairs being glued back together and the smell was always amazing. In fact I once tried building a bird box in his workshop at the bottom on his garden once.

I really love the out come of this project, it's huge and unstable, it's meant to make you feel uncomfortable. In fact I have placed some art pieces oddly to annoy some people as it would annoy me too. It took me a long time to find all of these chairs as they were locked aways or scattered all over the university. I had a lot of fun with it though and really love the outcome.

The photo may be changed later, I just like the uneven layering of the photos, it goes well with the museum.
