layering images

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

With my photography I wanted to do something fun with them so I decided to layer them just because I hadn't done it before.

The first two images are very old photos which were saved after my old computer went mental and deleted all my images. I did a photo shoot with my baby sister and I dressed her up as a punk (as she put it), I loved the outcome the lighting in the shoot was beautiful, but a lot of the photos are now gone. the last two photos are very recent.

I really like this effect, especially the first image. I love the detail and greenness of my sisters eye and the pink and simpleness of the follow.  I also love the last image, to me it looks like the flower is very unstable and it's about to fall over. ha.

How to make patch work

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yes, I've made my mind up I'm going to make patch work garments as well as print. Because I just made a few samples for my sketch book and I enjoyed it so much. It took me 4 hours because they were so small and fiddly but I felt like 40 minutes because I had so much fun.

First you've got to cut out any shape you want to any size you want the patch work to be out of scrap paper. Take your shape and trace around the it, add a cm all the way round to create a seam allowance, this will be the pattern you use to cut the fabric with.

you will need to cut much more of the smaller pieces because they need to be stuck in side the fabric until your ready to take them out.

Place the small bit of paper on top of the fabric and fold the 1cm seam allowance over the paper and stitch in place. don't worry about how neat it is because this stitching will be taken out.

each triangle was 4cms along the longest side, so they were very small. obviously the bigger the shapes the easier it is.

once you have the little shapes are done, its very easy to just stitch the pieces together in what ever pattern you want. insure you use very small stitches to make it neat as possible. the edges of mine look very messy but that will go once I've stitched more triangles around it. Once your shape is completely surrounded by other shapes, that's when you unpick the ruff stitch and take out the little papers.

I was thinking about making my own patch work quilt over the summer so maybe this will be great patch work for me. Patch work is very easy, but how creative and wild you are with it the better it will look. Just look at Lu Flux as inspiration.

Patch work

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Looking at Spring/Summer 2012 trends for uni, I found a lot of patch work details on WGSN which reminded me of my final major project for college. I did amazing patch work inspired by my grandma bug's (kate cox) patchwork, she is well known in American for her work. My patch work was very expensive because it was make from 100% silk and I needed a LOT of it to make a tiny bit of fabric, but it was so much fun and looked amazing.

I loved doing it so much, I would love to do it again. So I'm thinking about making it again for the project I'm currently doing.

I lived off these in Japan!

2011_0216AC

When I was in Japan it was very hard to find good healthy food because we couldn't speak the languages so couldn't go to restaurants (and we tried, very confusing and I orders something horrible). So we lived of snack foods from corner shops and I am not complaining.

We had such amazing things, sandwiches with cream and banana for the filling, spicy potato sandwiches and pizza flavored crisps, pocky, gluten balls and some really amazing sweets. If I lived there for ever I would have to learn Japanese for get very fat. =D

Yes this is the sort of every day thing you found in Japan spotty sandwiches.

We went to a Japanese garden and they sold these really odd cake and green tea. The cakes had a very odd texture, like a very dry biscuit you have been chewing for a very long time but not as horrible as that seems. ha

In every train station there was these amazing vending machines with amazing milkshakes and warm coffee in a can!!!

Japan has an obsession with E number and flavorings these drinks with the fun faces on was the perfect example of how much chemicals they liked to use. I even had very cheesy pizza flavored crisps.

We went to an English restaurant, just to get some normal food having eaten junk all week. The place was amazing filled with football on the wall and fish and chips in news paper.

You wasn't aloud to drink alcohol until you were 21 in Japan (at the time I was 18) but you could very easily buy whiskey and this Iichiko drink from vending machines in the hotel.

These were pastries filled with anything you want. amazing!!

Japan is such an amazing place, Beautiful, every one is so kind and considerate to every one around them. I miss Japan soooo much, I miss Flo and Amy too.

I will live there one day!!
